I facilitated a second random weaving workshop at the Newstead Arts Hub last Saturday October 29. The first workshop in July was so popular we had enough people on the wait list to run a second workshop. Not even rescheduling due to flooding deterred them! The participants started by tying together rehydrated grapevine and willow wreaths to create a spherical form. They then consolidated the structural integrity of the baskets by weaving in wisteria and willow lengths. Finally surfaces were embellished with happy wanderer (hardenbergia) that helped create flowing lines on the surface of the baskets. Another great day at the Newstead Arts Hub with women who had travelled from all over the region to learn this basketry technique.
