Workshops at Secondary Schools

In March 2017, I spent an action packed morning with Year 9 and 10 Textile students. After listening to my short Artist Talk the students made a great effort to learn the basics of not one, but two, basketry techniques! In the picture below the students are holding samples of the coiled and twined basketry techniques they tried to learn over 2 hours.

In May 2018, I visited Wesley College, Clunes Campus for a day and a half and managed to introduce a group of Year 9’s to twining, coiling, random weaving and string making techniques! We started to make a small art installation by pegging hand made string from the ground up to the branches of a tree and recognised the amount of work needed to impact on large scale natural spaces. The students used new techniques to create individual sculptural baskets and group art installation during the rest of the week.
