Coiled Basketry workshop

What better way to keep the winter blues away? Yesterday a group were brimming with winter cheer at the Newstead Arts Hub while learning to coil a basket. Some used split flax and others used waxed and painted string to coil she-oak and pine needle baskets. The result were beautiful baskets with diverse texture, form and colouration. Coiling is a time consuming technique, a labour of love so most baskets were not completed in the one day workshop. I demonstrated how to finish, so that participants were provided with the skills to finish their baskets at home.

  1. Hi Jodie, These are fantastic baskets! I really like the use of the beautiful pieces of wood for the base. Looking forward to your workshop at the Plant Craft Cottage in August. Letty ________________________________
