The first weekend of Craft Lab was fabulous! Thank you to Kate for helping me install, you lightened the load. I also appreciated the help of volunteers Sue, Isaac and Jodie. They supported visitors to make bundles of fibre that were attached to the wall. This evolving art installation depicts two underground root structures. The bundles of fibre extend the roots suggesting communication between the plants and mycelian, a network of support.
The help of volunteers enabled me to be out the front of my alcove showing people how to make twined baskets. I had many lovely conversations with old and new friends. I responded to specific inquiries people had, demonstrating how to make string, random weave and talk about the intricacies of working with plant fibre for basketry. I really enjoyed the NEW me, asking people for help instead of doing everything my self!
