AIR – Exhibition Instalment 8

This is the last post that has documented my experiences during one month as Artist in Residence at Central Craft in Alice Springs. Thanks for those who have come along with me on this process of sifting through and writing about this rare opportunity.

Once the exhibition of works in progress was open (entitled Reciprocal Relations: People and Plants) I hired a car and went to Yuendumu for a few days. Cecilia Alphonso, the coordinator of Warlukurlangu Art Centre agreed to host me in one of the donga’s attached to the Art Centre that house workers who come from all over the world to volunteer.

I wasn’t prepared for the scale of the Art Centre that supports a large number of Aboriginal artists to paint. Some of the photos below will show processes that are in place to paint, house, document and sell thousands of paintings each year.

I had a talk with Dorothy Dixon about Bush Tomato, please read my conversation with her. Dorothy Dixon’s artworks can be viewed at – https://warlu.com/artist/dorothy-napurrurla-dickson/
