I had a health related hiatus from running weaving workshops in 2025 due to treatment for cancer. I did manage to facilitate one weaving workshop in 2025, a three day weaving camp for the Centre for Creativity and Consciousness at the Mallee Bush Camp in Hopetoun in September that was memorable.
I am continuing treatment for cancer in 2026 by taking an oral targeted chemotherapy medication that is slowing me down with fatigue and other side effects. So, I wanted to let my weaving friends and colleagues know I will be taking another year off from teaching weaving workshops next year. I will continue to work three days a week in the garden with primary aged children at Delacombe Primary School (for the SAKGP). I am really enjoying the challenge of helping kids grow fruit, vegetables and herbs and look after their guinea pigs and chickens. That challenge is enough, considering my recovery and treatment process.
See pictures below from Stitching the Sacred (Weaving Camp) including a portrait of myself with a special gift from the organisers (Shalome and Bianca). A beautiful rosary necklace featuring hand made beads of rose petals, lavender and hawthorn wood. Participants all made made twined baskets from combungi bullrush spokes and daylily and jonquil weavers. Some challenged themselves further by making a second basket from flax spokes and red hot poker weavers.

hi Jodie,
thanks for the update, have had you in my thoughts, especially when I am making my fabric and thread bowls. I have enjoyed pottery this year, and making a version of story bowls, also did a short lino printing workshop at the Red Shed, lots of fun. I can’t believe I turned 70 this year, very nearly 71! Sending love and creativity your way cheers Tina Fratta
Best wishes Jodie.Gail RossiSent from my Galaxy
Hello Jodie
So good to hear your news though it’s daunting to hear that you are needing to continue treatment. Good, however, to continue treatment and beat this insidious virus. Another year to focus on you and your recovery will work wonders. You’re looking good despite the challenging treatment and I do love the necklace that Shalome and Bianca made you. Having the lavender so close to you will be calming and help the healing process. Tiredness must be a big factor particularly whilst working the three days with kids and I hope the other side effects aren’t too arduous. As hard as it all must be right now, I’m sure you’ll look back on this and know it was ‘just’ a rough tough time and worth the endurance and effort required. Your art must be calling you and I have every faith you’ll return to it with grace and continued dignity.
I’ve stepped completely away from the Friends – a sad departure on reflection – and am now spending time with family and stitching, which is a joy and very satisfying. Lots to learn and I have joined a gorgeous group of 15 women who have been quilting for 30+ years together. They’ve been so welcoming and the learning curve is easier with them around. The Cottage is continuing to thrive and I’m sure they’ll welcome you with open arms when you’re ready to return to workshops. Yours were always the highlight of our programme for me with the warmth and talents you brought to each session. Good that you can now turn that inwards and focus on yourself.
Keep safe
Sending lots of love and good healthy vibes
Lisa
