Winnowing Seed was made for the inaugural prize and exhibition called “Its a Small World” at the Newstead Arts Hub for the Castlemaine State Festival in March 2023. A fabulous, diverse collection of sculptural work’s were presented interpreting the theme: ‘It’s a small world’ is a phrase often used to describe the connection points between people and events around the world. Through globalisation our world is becoming ever smaller – for better or for worse.
Artist Statement for Winnowing Seed
“As a gardener I spend time saving seed at the end of each growing season. This involves winnowing seed, a repetitive and meditative process that invites reflection. I think about the power of seed, such small objects that have such incredible potential.”
