Day 5 – Finish and exhibition of Double Baskets

Friday Sep 29 was the last day to make and then exhibit the Double Baskets. Participants came in to finish lashing and stitching natural fibre onto the chicken wire frameworks. The soft inner baskets were then inserted into the outer baskets to finish. Some had time to work on other baskets started during the week. We reflected on the workshop that included participants giving valuable feedback, before walking down to “The Space” to set up our display. After a rest and dinner the entire cohort went down to appreciate the creative work accomplished during the week.

On Saturday morning I walked along the Geelong foreshore trying to bridge the gap between the world experienced at the Fibre Forum and my everyday one! A young Indian boy calling out ahead, looking for something. As I got closer I heard him calling out, “elephants, elephants, where are you elephants?” I smiled as it seemed that I was not the only one inhabiting an in-between space, between two worlds.

It has taken me a few days to get to this post as I have needed to rest and recover from the energy output needed to provide this masterclass. An incredibly rewarding and immersive experience. I hope they ask me back!
