Random Weaving at NAH

It is becoming an annual event to visit Newstead in Spring to support a group make random weave baskets. This year I had a simple display that showed a small number of baskets, focusing on random weaving and techniques I aim to teach in 2024. I am hoping to facilitate Woven Boats in January and Sculptural Birds using Random Weaving in August.

Anyway, the materials available for yesterdays workshop were an abundance of willow and grapevine hoops, long lengths of wisteria, willow and hardenbergia (or happy wanderer). The morning was spent creating a framework that had structural integrity and the afternoon in surface embellishment. Always a pleasure to sit in this space with a group, weaving the day away…

  1. Another great success Jodie! Lovely to see Mary Park there. Her son Lachie built our wooden shed 😃 Did you make the connection? G

  2. Hi Jodie

Thank you for all your lovely posts. I’m about to lose this email address, but can’t see how to unsubscribe so perhaps you can do it for me.

You probably won’t remember but a few years ago at the Basket Weavers New Year Event in Camberwell, you said to me, why do I have to be able to do what others do, why can’t I just enjoy what they’ve done. Or something like that. It’s taken me 18 months immersed in Buddhism to realise that you were able to see one of my greatest afflictions. Thanks to you it wasn’t such a surprise when my covetousness came to light. Thanks to Buddhism I’ve been able to work on this, feeling much more joyful and at peace. I’m on the Sunshine Coast now and still do a bit of weaving.

    Kind regards Angela

    1. What a lovely, lovely message! I was wondering where you were, and it sounds like you have been on an amazing journey. Thanks so much for sharing the impact of my teaching. Sometimes I hold back, and it sounds like I didn’t that day! I wish you well with your spiritual journey on the Sunshine Coast.
