Random weaving small birds from flax

The weather was perfect for the outdoor workshop held by Friends of Royal Botanic Gardens at the Plant Craft Cottage last Saturday November 20. I led 8 participants through an open step-by-step process to make small birds using sculptural techniques and the basketry technique of random weaving or interlacing. The ladies shown dedication in their navigation through learning new techniques and making a number of creative choices to create beautiful little birds. It was wonderful to see Melbourne busy again with people out and about enjoying “life after lockdown”.
