8 intrepid ladies braved the outdoors yesterday to make a willow garden cloche at the Creswick Neighbourhood Centre. We were lucky that there was only the occasional shower. I made sure I bought heaps of sweet treats from the local bakery to help keep our energy and spirits up!!
I have been busy collecting willow from the waterways in the Hepburn Shire for my next workshop coming up at the Creswick Neighbourhood Centre. Western Fibre Artists were lucky to have Polly visit us today in Darley and teach us really fun basketry techniques that allowed us to combined coiled and knotless netting.
Yesterday I worked with 7 ladies at the Creswick Neighbourhood Centre, showing basic tips and tricks when creating coiled baskets. No-one finished their basket so I hope that they go home and spend some time finishing them! Coiled basketry can be one of the more time consuming basketry processes.
I visited Wesley College, Clunes Campus for a day and a half and managed to introduce a group of Year 9’s to twining, coiling, random weaving and string making techniques! The students will use these new techniques to create individual sculptural baskets and a group art installation during the rest of the week.
I had a busy weekend making straw dolls with kids and their families at the Creswick Neighbourhood Centre on Saturday and Lavandula in Hepburn on Sunday. At Lavandula the geese were close by, making sure all the stall holders were doing everything well and according to their high expectations!

I had a great day teaching 8 ladies how to make twined baskets at the Creswick Neighbourhood Centre on Saturday March 10. They are quite technical baskets for beginners to create so we all worked hard on the day!!
